At the heart of the global energy transition, WMC helps ensure the world has reliable access to the raw materials needed for a cleaner and more sustainable future. We trade and manage the supply of physical commodities like nuclear fuel and battery materials—essential resources for generating and storing low-carbon energy. Founded in 2016, WMC is a privately-owned company with four offices globally: Amsterdam, Netherlands; Zug, Switzerland; Denver, USA and Hong Kong.
WMC’s team brings together commercial, technical and financial expertise to help shape the future of energy. We thrive on collaboration, innovation and building a workplace that supports people to do their best work. As a globally connected and diverse team (approximately 14 nationalities working in eight countries, from our offices or remote), we believe in operational excellence and creating inclusive, well-run environments where our teams can flourish.
As an Associate in the Battery Materials team, you will focus on our trading and financing activities globally across key battery metals such as lithium, cobalt, nickel, manganese and copper. The position offers exposure to both the commercial and operational aspects of physical commodity trading, as well as structured financing transactions.
You will gain hands-on experience in deal origination, risk management, logistics coordination and transaction structuring within a dynamic international environment.
In addition, for the first six to twelve months, you will take significant ownership in executing and, gradually, managing the physical operations that come with WMC’s transactions. This experience serves as a foundation for your development into an all-round commodity trading professional at WMC.
• Support the Battery Materials Trading team in the origination, structuring and management of physical and financial transactions.
• Provide operational and logistical support for transactions in close coordination with the Operations team. This may involve planning shipments, tracking inventories and managing workflows and relationships with third party service providers such as banks, insurers and testing and logistics companies.
• Develop and maintain relationships with counterparties across the battery value chain globally, which includes participating in client meetings, attending conferences and significant business travel.
• Contribute to the development and improvement of trading tools and transaction models.
• Contribute to the structuring and execution of complex commodity-linked financial transactions, such as funded repurchase agreements, secured inventory financing, debt facilities, equity investments and derivatives.
• Conduct market research and share insights on trends and developments in relevant commodity markets.
For this role we are looking for:
• Strong educational background, preferably a master's degree in finance, economics, econometrics or technical/ engineering
• Commercial mindset, strong analytical skillset and attention to detail
• Entrepreneurial, self-starter and motivated to take ownership
• Structured approach and ability to multitask across different projects
• Willingness to travel globally
• Open to potential relocation to one of our international offices, including Zug, Hong Kong or Denver
• Fluency in English required; proficiency in additional language such as Mandarin, Spanish and Russian is an advantage
• Preferably previous internship or professional experience, ideally gained at an investment bank, strategy consultancy or commodity trader
• Join a high-performing and close-knit team, and contribute to a fast-growing business
• Become part of a dynamic work environment where innovation and precision are valued, while contributing directly to the global energy transition
• Operate in an entrepreneurial, constantly changing, global environment in an emerging industry
